Responsible Use of AI
Seedili is designed to support learning and understanding, not to produce assessable work. This page explains how AI is used in Seedili and how it aligns with academic integrity principles.
Core Principles
Seedili supports learning, not submission. The AI assistant is designed to help students clarify concepts, structure their thinking, and reflect on their understanding. It does not produce work intended for assessment or submission.
AI is used to clarify, structure, and reflect. The assistant asks guiding questions, encourages students to explain ideas in their own words, and helps them work through problems step by step. It does not provide final answers or complete work on behalf of students.
Outputs are not intended as assessable work. All responses from Seedili are explicitly designed to support understanding rather than serve as submissions. The system prompts and responses are structured to encourage learning processes, not deliverable outputs.
Institutions control which AI features are enabled. Each institution can configure which features are available to their users, including general chat, materials Q&A, and file uploads. Usage limits can also be set at the institution level.
What Seedili AI Does
Clarifies Concepts
The assistant helps students understand difficult concepts by breaking them down, asking clarifying questions, and providing explanations that support comprehension rather than providing ready-made answers.
Structures Thinking
When students are working on assignments or studying, the assistant helps them organize their thoughts, identify key points, and develop logical structures for their work. It guides the process rather than producing the output.
Encourages Reflection
The assistant prompts students to reflect on their understanding, explain concepts in their own words, and consider alternative perspectives. This supports deeper learning and metacognitive development.
Answers Questions About Materials
When materials Q&A is enabled, the assistant can answer questions based on uploaded course materials. It uses only the provided materials and indicates when information is not available in those materials. This helps students engage with course content more effectively.
What Seedili AI Does Not Do
Does Not Write Essays or Assignments
The assistant does not produce essays, assignments, or other work intended for submission. If a student asks for such output, the assistant will redirect them toward explanation, clarification, or structured thinking exercises instead.
Does Not Provide Final Answers
The assistant does not provide final answers intended for assessment. It supports the learning process by helping students work through problems themselves, rather than completing work on their behalf.
Does Not Complete Work on Behalf of Students
The assistant does not frame responses as solutions or outputs to submit. It encourages students to explain ideas in their own words and develop their own understanding, rather than providing work they can submit.
Does Not Invent Information
When answering questions about uploaded materials, the assistant uses only the information present in those materials. It is transparent when materials do not contain sufficient information to answer a question, and does not invent facts or details.
Academic Integrity Alignment
Seedili is designed to align with academic integrity principles by supporting genuine learning rather than enabling academic dishonesty. The system's design and prompts are structured to encourage understanding and reflection, not to produce work that could be submitted as a student's own.
Transparent Design
The system is transparent about its purpose and limitations. Students are informed that Seedili supports learning, not submission, and the assistant itself reinforces this principle in its interactions.
Institutional Control
Institutions have full control over which features are enabled and how they are used. This allows institutions to align Seedili's use with their specific academic integrity policies and learning objectives.
Learning-Focused Prompts
The AI assistant is programmed with prompts that explicitly discourage requests for assessable work and redirect students toward learning-focused interactions. The system gently but firmly guides students away from requests that would compromise academic integrity.
Supporting Understanding
By focusing on clarification, structuring, and reflection, Seedili supports the development of genuine understanding. This aligns with academic integrity goals of ensuring students develop authentic knowledge and skills.
Best Practices for Institutions
To ensure Seedili is used in ways that align with academic integrity:
- Clearly communicate to students that Seedili is a learning support tool, not a tool for producing assessable work.
- Configure feature availability based on your institution's policies and learning objectives.
- Set appropriate usage limits to encourage thoughtful engagement rather than over-reliance.
- Integrate Seedili into your academic integrity policies and guidelines, making expectations clear to students.
- Monitor usage patterns and provide guidance to students on appropriate use of AI learning support tools.
